The Arthurs Paragalaxias is a Tasmanian endemic fresh water fish which is only found in Woods and Arthurs Lakes. The species grows to around 80 mm in length and is usually dark greenish brown on the back, with similar coloured bands and patches on the sides and a silvery-grey belly. It is found around rocky and vegetated lake shores but also occurs at greater depths. It eats invertebrates and crustaceans. Threats are from changed and variable hydrological conditions and predation and completion from introduced fish species.

Permit: A permit is required under the Tasmanian Threatened Species Protection Act 1995 to 'take' (which includes kill, injure, catch, damage, destroy and collect), keep, trade in or process any specimen or products of a listed species. Additional permits may also be required under other Acts or regulations to take, disturb or interfere with any form of wildlife or its products, (e.g. dens, nests, bones). This may also depend on the tenure of the land and other agreements relating to its management.
