The Dwarf Galaxias is a small native fresh water fish growing to about 4cm long. It is more or less transparent, darker on the back and with three longitudinal black stripes. The species occurs in lowland swampy areas of far northwest and northeast Tasmania and Flinders Id. It is found in slow flowing waterways like streams in swamps and in drainage channels. Threats are from loss and degradation of habitat through conversion to agriculture, stock trampling and vegetation clearing, sedimentation and reduction of water levels for irrigation.
