  • Lycopus australis is a leafy erect semi-aquatic herb. The species is most easily identified when in flower from January to March, though it can be identified from its distinctive foliage until June before the stems die back for winter.
  • In Tasmania, Lycopus australis occurs in moist shaded places including disturbed areas within Melaleuca ericifolia swamp forest, Phragmites australis reed beds, and rocky (dolerite) riverbeds fringed by riparian scrub.

Additional permits may also be required under other Acts or regulations to take, disturb or interfere with any form of wildlife or its products, (e.g. dens, nests, bones).
